I hate sickness.
[Mar 1:41 NASB95] 41 Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”
[Jhn 11:33 NASB95] 33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her [also] weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit and was troubled,
These two verses show us a powerful aspect of the healing/miracle ministry of Jesus. He was not neutral when it comes to healing. Notice in Mark 1:41 that Jesus was “moved with compassion.” The NIV translates that word as “indignant.” Either way, Jesus was not “ok” with this person being sick. There was a deep response within Him that was connected to the man’s healing.
You will see something similar in the raising of Lazarus from the dead. We read that Jesus was “deeply moved in spirit and was troubled.” He was displeased and angry. An emotional response in Jesus preceded the miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead.
He is still not “ok” with sickness. He is angry at the plight of the people who deal with sickness. He is not neutral or pleased when we are dealing with sickness.
Neither are we. In 2006, we spent nearly four months in the NICU. We saw death and pain every day. It was horrible. Seeing people go through one tragedy after another created compassion for people and anger toward sickness. We resolved to seek God for more healing power to help people. He has released that power. He is continuing to release that power in greater measure.
This Sunday, we will preach about Jesus being a Healer. Pray for the Holy Spirit to release His power to heal people. May the Holy Spirit continue to lay this foundation to help ENC reach this region like never before.
This is part of the sermon series “Foundations: Always Protected and Prospering.” We will continue to look into how to build our lives on the foundation of Jesus Christ and His teachings. This sermon series will continue every Sunday and Wednesday through May.
