Encourage Yourself In The Lord
Moreover David was greatly distressed because the people spoke of stoning him, for all the people were embittered, each one because of his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. I Samuel 30:6
This verse of scripture has a powerful truth that everyone needs to learn.
Here is the point: at this moment in David’s life nothing God promised him had come to pass. This event took place years after the Prophet Samuel anointed him to be king. Yet, he is not king. He was supposed to lead the armies of God. He could not even keep the small group of raiders together. His family and money was stolen from him. His friends wanted to kill him. He was at ROCK BOTTOM.
What he did in that moment is amazing! He strengthened (or encouraged) himself in the Lord his God! He did not need someone else nor did he have to have everything to be right in order to be strong or encouraged.
It is wonderful when we have others around us to encourage us when we are going through a mess. It is easy to be strong when everything is working out fine. What do you do when no one is around to encourage you? What do you do when nothing is working? What do you do when you seem to be getting further away from your miracle than ever?
In David’s case this was a turning point. From this moment he began the ascent to the throne. He did not let his past, or his present, determine his future. He kept holding on to the promise God gave to him.
Be encouraged. Learn to strengthen yourself in the Lord your God. It can become your turning point too.
We look forward to seeing you Sunday 9AM & 11AM at Evangel North Church. We love you!
